Every so often, I choose to read books because they have catchy titles. I entirely ignore the common phrase that gets thrown around frequently in life — don't judge a book by its cover. Well, I guess when picking a book, we aren't even supposed to seek the more profound meaning of that phrase. Honestly, I chose to read Randy the Irresistible by S M Goodier because of its catchy title. I just hoped it delivers a story that matches the catchy title. Frankly, It did not disappoint. It has a humorous plot that is educative and realistic.

The protagonist, Randy Love, is a young, confident, and good-looking man. He is a womanizer who effortlessly gets ladies to sleep with him. Some of his friends got intimidated by the effect he had on ladies; they made sure they never brought their lady friends around him. Randy finds jobs with ease because he is charming, and he is a good salesman with the ability to sell anything to anyone. This trait makes him valuable to his employees. Despite all that, Randy lacks commitment. His relationships suffer because he is not responsible. Most people find him a nuisance, but that doesn't bother him. Randy is always ready to cut people off. Does he continue being egocentric, or does he change for the better? You will get the answer to this question when you dig deep into the book.

It was easy to develop a love-hate relationship with the protagonist. He was self-centered, and anyone can easily find a reason to hate him, but there is a lot to learn from his life journey. There are many life lessons in Randy's transition from living at home to living by himself. Lucky for him, he had people around him that would bail him out whenever he got himself in ludicrous situations. Although his character made me lack empathy for him from time to time while reading this book, I felt sad for him when he faced difficult situations. For instance, I empathized with him when he almost became homeless.

The ability of the author to connect with readers through humor is laudable. The inclusion of humor in this story made it engaging, and it allowed me to relate easily to most of the things in this book. It made it easy to drop any prejudices I had, and I open-mindedly enjoyed the story. The author was also vivid in describing places and events. I could effortlessly draw mental pictures from his descriptions.

I won't be lying when I say that there is nothing that displeased me in this book. It had minor grammatical errors that did not affect the overall enjoyment of the book. I give it a rating of 4 out of 4 stars. If you like books that have British humor, this book will appeal to you. I must warn that this book contains profanity and erotic scenes; therefore, young readers and anyone sensitive to such content should avoid it.
