[Following is a volunteer review of "Deadly Odds 4.0" by Allen Wyler.]
When it comes to sci-fi thrillers, look no further! Deadly Odds 4.0 by Allen Wyler is a magnificent read chock full of twists and turns. As the fourth book in Wyler’s series, Deadly Odds 4.0 certainly threw me on a rollercoaster. The book centers around the main protagonist, Arnold Gold, who happens to have been a cyber hacker of sorts. With his background in cybercrime and hacking, a Seattle law firm chooses Arnold to investigate a threatening ransom deal, a deal that could potentially destroy the law firm. Arnold Gold is skeptical of the law firm due to the strict and secretive nature of the workers and soon suspects he is a part of something bigger. Arnold Gold sure was right. Read the book and find the jaw-dropping twists and turns!
When it comes to positive aspects, the book had quite the selection. I thoroughly enjoyed the inner dialogue of the book. This provided a wonderful insight into the mind and thought processes of Arnold Gold. As funny as this may sound, I truly enjoyed the foul language and word choices used throughout, especially within chapter eight. The language used truly showcased the utter rawness and truthfulness of the main protagonist. Who does not love a relatable and grounded character?
As far as anything negative goes, the book truly had no noteworthy
negative aspects. It was hard to narrow down anything negative, but the only negative thing I could remotely think of was how the book itself was written as part of a series of books. I personally did not realize this was the fourth book in a series and went into reading the book as if it were the first of the series. Truthfully, this did not hinder my reading, but it did make it slightly more difficult to follow simply due to the fact that some information was expected to be known and understood already coming into the fourth book.
Overall, I would give this book a 3 out of 4 stars. The book itself was a wonderful read. I enjoy thrillers that leave you on the edge of your seat, so if you do too then this is the perfect book for you! The reason I gave this book 3 stars was simply because I wish I had read the first three books first. It was a tad bit hard to follow and understand for that reason and that reason only.
I would highly recommend this book for anyone interested in sci-fi, thrillers, and action-packed stories! The most suitable audience would be young adults and up. Due to the language used throughout the book, I would not recommend this for anyone younger!
