Tinman, by Karen Black and Matt Walton is a murder mystery that spans the United States; from Minnesota to Denver, Los Angeles, and even Alaska. It has elements of big business corruption, drug cartels, blackmail, environmental protests, and even the music scene. It has twists and turns that will have the reader intrigued by what could possibly happen next.

The story begins with a mysterious phone call. Charley, an old friend of Greg McGregor’s, calls with a cryptic message for him. All he would tell him on the phone was that it had something to do with a lot of money. Nine figures, in fact. As Greg makes arrangements to meet his friend, an attempt is made on his life. Before he gets a chance to meet him, Greg witnesses Charley's murder. Greg is scared for his own life but determined to find out who killed his friend. Or, more importantly, who hired the killers. On this quest he meets Corky, the beautiful caretaker of Charley‘s Colorado ski lodge. Together they search for answers. Was it Charley’s company that ordered the hit on him? Was it the environmental group who are protesting some of his projects? Or is it something completely unrelated? Greg and Corky travel to Alaska to get some answers, all the while looking over their shoulders for the killers who want to keep them from finding those answers.

I found this book to be very engaging. Every time I thought I had figured it out a new twist was introduced. I enjoyed the characters of Greg and Corky. The interaction between the two was fun and humorous. Corky was a bit quirky, which brought out a fun side of Greg. I wish the author would have delved deeper into some of the other characters. Most of them didn't play a huge part in the story, but they could have added a bit of depth to it.

The only negative aspects of this book were the predictability and the editing. Some of the plot twists were a bit predictable, but still fun. Others, I never saw coming! I would’ve given this a four star rating if the editing was more complete. There were quite a few editing errors. Therefore, I give it 3 out of 4 stars.

I think this book will appeal to a wide range of readers. It's a mystery, but romance plays a big part in it. Also, the elements of environmentalism and corporate greed make it interesting for even more readers. There is a small amount of profanity, but I don't think it's enough to offend many people. There is also a small amount of mild sexual content. Again, it's doubtful that many would be offended by it. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a quick, easy read that is a real page-turner.
