How to be successful is an amazing and inspiring book written by M. Curtis McCoy. The book catches my attention from the very beginning. I am intrigued by the author's story of how he became successful at a young age but then got diagnosed with brain cancer. The condition negatively affected his life, family, and business. But even after hitting rock bottom, he lifted himself, despite his health conditions, and chose to move forward.

I immediately fell in love with his writing style, where he interviews great people who have had different levels of experience and achieved success in their businesses. Getting financial, career, and business advice from someone who has actually gone through it is a big deal to a beginner.

I enjoyed reading most of the interviews. I loved Jeff Wobig's part of the interview where he explains the 'secret sauce to financial freedom. You may take everything and all the money from a man, but what you can't take is his ability to make more. It is better to learn how to make money because no one can ever take that from you. But as I read his interview, to a point, I somehow lost some focus. I felt like he was giving unnecessary details about himself and his family, making the interview dull. I also didn't like how the author chose to focus so much on rewarding and celebrating achievements. At first, I was perfectly fine with the message, but I began to sense fluff in the content as I read on.

My favorite interview was with Connie Wyatt, Chief Marketing Officer, Best Cellular. One of the major highlights in her interview was how she explained dreams and goals. Dreams are put in concrete, but goals are drawn in the sand. To be quite honest, it took me some time to comprehend this. You chase your dreams, but along the way, different circumstances may force you to adjust your goals to align. Another thing that captured my mind was where she stated that sometimes you feel like you’re on top of the mountain where everything looks beautiful and works well. Other times you feel you’ve sunk deep at the bottom of a dark valley where nothing seems to work. But it’s while you are there that you find water to quench your thirst and give you the strength to climb back to the top. I also loved the fact Connie chose to involve God in all her decisions. It’s no wonder she is so successful.

Integrity, loyalty, and passion are some of the powerful words you will come across while reading the book. You will also get to know why different people interviewed in this book deeply value these terms. I recommend the book to readers who love motivational, inspiring, and real-life stories. Readers who are in different stages of entrepreneurship will find the book valuable and exciting. I rate the book 3 out of 4 stars because it was professionally edited and life-changing.
