Murder mystery and comedy books, both polar apart. What if they were incorporated into one? How amazing would that be? Arsenic and Old Men by Glenn Ickler will help you with that. It is a murder mystery with comedic touch to it. A tragic death, three friends (or as they consider themselves, the three musketeers) and their quest to find out the truth.

The story starts on a tragic note with the death of Walter Jerome from the island of Martha's Vineyard. Dave Jerome was the only living relative of Uncle Jerome and the one to take over his possessions. Alan Jeffrey and Warren Mitchell, coupled with their respective wives, had decided to accompany him for emotional support. Things take an interesting turn when local police inform them about the poisoning of Uncle Jerome. The suppose the title of the story gives away with what he was poisoned. The three friends worked with the same news company and being the investigative reporter, Warren Mitchell couldn't let go of the golden opportunity to report these events. Although it cost him and his friends an extended stay( as ordered by their boss) in Oak Bluffs. A dramatic turn of events take place when another senior citizen, Teddy Kennedy (his last name was uncertain though) was found dead. The reason behind his death- surprise surprise- was from arsenic poisioning as well. The three musketeers are seen to be more effective in putting the pieces of the puzzle together than the police. So who's the person behind these murders? Are they able to solve this mystery? What is the link between Walter Jerome and Teddy Kennedy? It gets more interesting and mysterious with every page turned.

What I loved about this book is how it's not "all serious" mystery. The first page itself gives away that fact. The characters are described so well that you can feel their frustration, curiousity etc. I have never seen(or read about) people being so unlucky and lucky at the same time. Ofcourse they are stuck in a mystery solving mission, but also it's helping them to mark a place in their boss' good books. A clothing-optional believer lawyer and gorgeous twins add some entertainment to it.

There was nothing about this book that I didn't like. Some might find unnecessary addition of details. There were no errors in the book. Only a couple of errors were spotted at the end. Therefore it is safe to say that the book is professionally edited.
I would give this book a solid four out of four stars. I would recommend this book to every murder mystery lover. Infact, audience who don't want too much of seriousness would surely enjoy this too. There were no some profanities mentioned but nothing significant.
