[Following is a volunteer review of "Soul Seeker" by Kaylin McFarren.]
Benjamin Poe is a reputable captain of the fire department in the small town of Lochton, Illinois. But according to his wife Alexandra and son Gabriel, he is failing at being a husband and father. Not only is Benjamin struggling in his marriage due to his outlook on Gabriel's behavior, but he is also still grieving the loss of his young daughter. One morning at the local general store, Benjamin hears an explosion and soon realizes a fire has started at his son's workplace. A few weeks after the fire, life in Lochton seems to be returning to normal until Benjamin notices an eerie man with an evil presence. That same night Benjamin finds out that the mysterious man is Crighton, and he is coming for one of the souls of his loved ones.
Weeks had gone by since Crighton's threats with no sign of him. Until one night, Crighton reappears and starts to torment Benjamin and his family. After tricking Benjamin into doing the unimaginable, Crighton had gotten what he wanted. As a demon, this was all fun and games for him. After having his fun, Crighton returns to his home, Hell. Receiving an order from his master, Lucifer, Crighton sets out to Earth once again. His mission this time around is to capture a prized Guardian angel. As his plans are interrupted, he finds himself abducted by a group of scientists. A group that calls themselves the Sovereign Sector. Not only did they take him but an angel named Ariel as well, for who he finds himself having forbidden affections.
Soul Seeker by Kaylin McFarren is a thriller paranormal novel brimming with romance. Through the story, Crighton doubts his loyalty to Lucifer, and with Ariel's help, he discovers his true self.
I truly enjoyed this novel! I chose this novel because of the paranormal aspect and was greatly satisfied. Every character had a life-like feel to me which enhanced my experience. Ariel was undoubtedly my favorite character. Ariel enthralled me because even though she came off as meek, she had hidden fierceness to her. Even the minor characters throughout the book had a powerful impact on me. The withdrawal from Crighton towards Ariel felt realistic but not too harsh which, I liked. I adored Crighton's want to be a better person for Ariel.
I recommend Soul Seeker to any reader who loves the paranormal and romance. I felt Soul Seeker had a good balance of romance and fast-paced action.
One positive aspect for me about this novel was Crighton's determination to change. I admired how even though Crighton would still have his evil urges, he didn't give in and kept his willpower. I have no complaints about this novel!
Soul Seeker earned a 4 out of 4 from me. I give this rating because the plot and the characters left me spellbound! I enjoyed how Crighton started as the villain but wanted redemption in the end. Ariel and Crighton's love wasn't forced, which added to the appeal of their romance. I found no grammatical errors to distract me from this captivating novel!
