Review of How To Be Successful
Book review by M. Curtis Mccoy
I read this book at the right time of my life where I needed motivation inspiring and courageous words just like these words from Curtis Mccoy. This book is a compilation of interview questions to professional athletes, preachers, wealthy inventors, even ex-convicts turned entrepreneurs. He asked them pretty much the same questions, for example, what is your definition of success. These entrepreneurs were kind enough to tell us the core principles and values that make them who they are and what they stand for. The title of this book is simple self-explanatory and easy to understand. How to be successful, basically it gives us tips and hints on how to be successful in life either personal lives or financial aspect. M. Curtis Mccoy was diagnosed with diabetes at 27 months old, with the help of his mother Connie Wyatt, he did not allow diabetes to define him. By the time was he was 27 years old he was a very successful entrepreneur. He owned multiple businesses in various industries including medical and fashion. Suddenly things took an unexpected turn for him in 2010, he was diagnosed with cancer. Oncologists gave him only 60-90 days to live. Life was unbearable for him he lost his memory he could not drive or remember simple details about his life he lost everything. However, with the help of his parents, they searched for alternative treatments and he slowly began to recover.
I loved reading this book because after he recovered from brain cancer Curtis Mccoy was just like the rest of us. I felt like I can feel his bare soul. He did not hide or protected himself he allowed himself to be vulnerable. He improved himself he enjoys motivational talks, workout music, and reading books. He fixed himself before he can help others that alone takes a lot of courage and determination. He launched success, motivation, and inspiration as a blog not just for himself but he inspired and motivated a whole lot of other people. The blog was a lifesaver to some people who wanted to end it all because they seemed to be in the dark, and had failed. This book had a strong Christian message to religious individuals and to those who believe in the high power. I was amazed that almost all these entrepreneurs responded with a similar answer of what keeps them grounded. Thier answer was God, family, and friends
Connie Wyatt said she reads the Bible daily, exercises to improve her mood and she is a devoted Christian. Whereas Jeff "Biggs Wobing" maintains a healthy lifestyle and prays to God every day. Paul B Watson is a preacher, but never skips his bible studies because he believed that Bile is a Book of life. Another positive aspect of this book it emphasizes that God the almighty goes hand in hand with one's personal development it could be business or self-help.
The negative aspect of this Book is it had a lot of unnecessary details for example visit a local church, join a gym find a hobby. I personally think that the world has changed mindset has revolved, people don't make friends accidentally. it is not uncommon for people to meet via the internet App. He gave a lot of ways to make friends or improve but he didn't mention how can one start a business by using social media maintain such as Instagram, starting a Youtube channel, or affiliate marketing. There were a lot of repetitions for example chapter 20 page 139 Stop wasting your life could have been mentioned once not twice. The content of stop wasting your life and chase your dreams portrays the same message no need to divide it. Page 140 have a dream was a repetition. Chapter 23 page 151 Does swearing makes you intelligent same question does cussing makes you smarter
I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars because I find a lot of repetitions as I explained above. The content is excellent but the same words are twisted and manipulated so they could be used again to send the same message.
I recommend this book to everyone who wants to improve their lives, start a business or improve their social circle. I would recommend it to teenagers, young adults that are looking into starting entrepreneurship as a career from a young age.
I did not notice any grammars typos or errors the grammar was excellent. I learned a lot myself. The English language was simply easy to understand yet powerful. It is a perfect book for someone who wants to improve English and grammar
