[Following is a volunteer review of "Snow Country Lane" by Sarah Vail.]

Snow Country Lane by Sarah Vail is a crime thriller full of action and suspense. While on a ski vacation at Schweitzer Mountain Ski Resort, Tim McAndrews and his friends witness a young girl being abducted. It turns out that this abduction is connected to many other abductions of young children, and Tim works with the FBI to try and put the pieces of this horrible puzzle together.
I have always enjoyed reading mystery and action novels, so I did not hesitate to start reading Snow Country Lane. I did not read the first book in the series and I think the author did a great job in writing this book as a book that can stand alone perfectly but also fits in with the rest of the series. I absolutely loved reading this book – the characters are well-developed and I felt I can easily identify with them. The first couple of chapters were a good read and I enjoyed it, but it was the last half of the book that was great and I could not put the book down. The interesting development near the end was very exciting. I also think it is wonderful that Sarah Vail chose child abductions and human trafficking to increase awareness of those specific crimes.
In my opinion the title of the book, Snow Country Lane does not live up to the rest of the novel. It does not grab the reader – especially readers that love crime thrillers. Although the characters are well-developed, some of the characters felt a little too perfect. I have children at the same age as those in the book and I think some behaviors of the children were a bit questionable. Young children under normal circumstances can be difficult, so after a traumatic experience, I do not believe children will act as portrayed in the book. Other than that, the book is really a good read.
I enjoyed this book and rate it a 3 out of 4 stars. This book makes you feel part of the action and intrigued at what is going to happen next. It was easy to read this book and it was well edited as I could not find any errors in the text. I just felt the behavior of the children’s characters were at times a little unrealistic.
I believe Snow Country Lane will appeal to those readers that love to read crime, suspense, and action fiction. I think those readers will thoroughly enjoy this book. I must caution the sensitive readers – there is one part that goes into some gruesome detail.
