Empowered, written by Dominica Lumazar, is a non-fiction book aimed at people interested in having a business. The author shares her life experience while giving tips on how to build and sustain your commercial venture or to maintain and grow an already established company. There are a hundred and forty-four pages. The book is divided into three sections: The first talks about her life and how she became an entrepreneur, the second talks about the essentials of entrepreneurship - as in work and life balance and leadership skills - and the third discusses brand management and building, with a focus on a digital world.

At first, it's important to note the positive aspects. Dominica Lumazar uses a mix of personal experience and work knowledge as an entrepreneur to build her arguments to support the lessons provided in the book. I loved the tips and it was very clear and easy to grasp the concepts she presented. She used a simple vocabulary to explain technical subjects and the knowledge given in this book is a great start on marketing and leadership skills. My personal favorite is the chapter about the relationship with employees, as she gives a different perspective on it in comparison with the over-marketed idea that employees and employers can't get along.

On a negative note, I believed the book was rather impersonal. The book, as stated above, uses her life experience as validation to the lessons, so I expected a more in-depth on her personal life. The few stories presented in the book were very short and lacked the emotional connection I was looking for. It doesn't compromise the awareness of her expertise, though. In addition, although is a minor point, there are a few lessons that are already widely known by the general public, since those ideas are over-explored in this industry, it makes the reading a bit disappointing.

Nevertheless, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. Dominica's work is a great tool to start your business venture. It's clear, concise, and full of important insights. As an add-on, at the end of each chapter, there are a few questions to help guide the reader towards the application of the lessons. A very nice touch to people that have difficulties in applying book lessons in real life.

I recommend this book to anyone interested in learning the basics of building and managing a business. I'd also suggest the reading to beginners on digital marketing. The book is professionally edited and it's a great source on the abilities needed to have a successful business. In conclusion, the book is amazing at doing what it proposes: Empower.
