Rise of the savior starts off with Amanda. Amanda is a regular teenager with a regular life. Her biggest concern in life is how to avoid community college. This leads to frequent disagreements with her parents. Adding to her woes her sister talks continuously to an imaginary deity and is devoid of any emotions whatsoever.

Everything was going fine for her apart from a few minor inconveniences. However, when a literal storm hits her and she gets trapped in a car and nearly drowns. A crazy voice inside her head speaks to her to save her life. Very soon she realises that this choice would lead her down a path of acolytes, and ancient deities. Everybody in the world has extremely high hopes from Amanda. Can she become the savior the world needs her to be, so she can protect her loved ones from danger or will she succumb to her anger and be unable to defeat the odds. This forms the premise of this franchise.

While Amanda is an acolyte of truth there exists another much more sinister acolyte fighting through much more evil means. Jamie Connor is an interesting antagonist as when his deity chooses him. He has to decide to whether save his son since doing so would require him to take lives of innocents. He chooses the path of evil to cure his son thereby leading him to the dark side.

Acolytes having power over Truth, Death, Electricity and other natural forces engaging in a battle of good vs evil over the millennia, an unconventional hero chosen by fate not choice, and a prophecy warning of something much darker. Can Amanda protect the world against the evil acolyte of death ? This should have been the basis for the Rise of the savior.

But what we end up getting is a rather messy storyline with unusually mechanical characters. The story doesn’t develop with a proper progression and events feel rushed. Scenes involving death are taken lightly and lack of connect to characters make this book an uneasy ride.

Though Antoine Bonner disappoints me with this read, it doesn't stand his fault completely. As one can understand the fact that the central idea of this book is filled with so much potential that it could have been the greatest book one has ever read but it would have taken a great author to do so. It fails catastrophically in building characters and plotline. By elongating the scenes and making events matter the great acolyte of truth Amanda could have competed with mainstream superheroes. Nonetheless, this prequel to the Rise of the hearts is an average book overall and good in its specific genres. The humor is profound and generously gifted to each character.

I have rated it 2 out of 4 stars for its performance. It had its highs but the fast paced uninteresting storytelling put me off. I personally believe it’s basically written. Though the book was edited properly, I wouldn't call it professional as there wasn’t enough proofreading. I couldn’t find any mistakes however. I recommend it to people who don’t care too much for details and just want to enjoy a basic and fast paced adventure story. It contains mild profanity and violence but it’s bearable to an average reader.
