[Following is a volunteer review of "The Reel Sisters" by Michelle Cummings.]
The Reel Sisters, written by Michelle Cummings, is a story that portrays the lives of five women of different age groups and backgrounds. It deals with their love life, family, hidden past, and grief.
Sophie, Rose, Veronica, and Amanda were good friends who bonded through fly fishing. They used to stay in Rose's cabin to fly fish in the Arkansas River. They had a busy life and fly fishing was their only enjoyment in life. During such a fly fishing day, they find a naked girl drowning in the river. They rescued her and soon she became a part of their group. Her name was Melody and she was a member of an online group of girls called Suicide Girls. Even though all of them were good friends, they had secrets and hidden desires which none of them wishes to share. This is the story of five women- Rose, an old and energetic lady; Sophie, who is afraid to fall in love; Veronica, who fears becoming a mother; Amanda, a young mother of two; and Melody, a girl who loves loneliness more than friends. This is a story where they find their true self and passion. A certain incident in their life changes them and hurts them in a way that can never be healed. If you want to find out how these women face their fear and overcome it, read this book.
The book had an amazing story and the problems and grief faced by each character were beautifully portrayed. Since the women were of different backgrounds, the story was so exciting. I liked the way the author used excerpts from fly fishing books in this story to show the similarity between fly fishing and life. I liked the ending and it made me sorrowful. The author described fly fishing in such a way that everyone reading this book will want to go fly fishing. The book excellently portrays sisterhood.
I enjoyed reading this book and I couldn't find any negative aspects.
I would give it a 4 out of 4 stars. I am giving a full star rating, as the story kept me entertained till the end. There weren't many mistakes in the story.
I would highly recommend this book to those who love to read women-centric books. It is also suitable for those who love to read books which deal with simple problems in life. If you are a fan of thriller or mystery novels, this book isn't right for you.
