[Following is a volunteer review of "Chasing The Red Queen" by Karen Glista.]
Chasing The Red Queen by Karen Glista portrays the life of seventeen-year-old Donja Bellanger, who was devastated by her father's death and now has to move to a strange city with her new stepfather and his daughter. She was forced to share rooms with her stepsister, Makayla Hampton, due to some renovations in their new house. At first, they didn't get along, but they found that they were "Mental Misfits" as they got to know each other. Glamorous Makayla inspired Goth Donja to Glamour and introduced her to a nightclub exclusive for the rich and Immortal Descendants. There she meets Torin Mancini, for whom she falls heads over heels. From then on her life takes a crazy dive, she goes through life-threatening situations, realises who she is, and many mysteries unfold in front of her. In the end, she holds fast to love that helps her gets through all the trials.
Karen Glista talks about how people from different backgrounds might judge each other though they go through the same grief but getting to know each other would help them get through extreme life situations, where they could know and help each other in ways others can't. She talks of the values of togetherness and unity of the family, that they won't leave you even if things go wrong. The author has maintained some formalities and some formal procedures followed by authorities in the story and for the character. The author has pointed that love can conquer war and can heal your wounds no matter ever happens.
The story has many plots where some characters are killed and tortured. The detailing of some of the primary analyses from some murder scenes is disturbing. Some scenes where the anti- protagonist torture the victims are also disturbing. One even made my stomach churn. The raging war and fight sequences were detailed. There are some places that almost indirectly said that the kitchen was for women and the outdoors for men. That is something I hate about some plots.
I rate the book with 3 out of 4. The impressive plot, the character details, the essence, the impeccable editing, the detailing of each scene, the choice of words to describe things, and everything about the book makes it deserve this rating. There are some scenes with erotic content, abuse, torture and alcohol use. The book was excellently edited. Chasing The Red Queen is a highly recommended fiction- fantasy book. It is recommended for people of age group above 16 years old.
