[Following is a volunteer review of "Rise of the Savior" by Antoine Bonner.]
The book "Rise of the Savior: Acolyte of Truth" revolves around a clueless girl - "Amanda". She doesn't want to go to college and has no plans for the future, however, her life changes when an ancient deity chooses her to be the acolyte of truth. She gains abilities and is ordered to use them to save the world. At the same time as this, Dr Jamie Connor receives the news that his son might die soon and he is then chosen to be the acolyte of death by another deity. Amanda doesn't wish to be a hero, but upon finding out that Dr Connor will take the lives of innocent children to save his own, she chooses to do as her diety wishes and puts a fight. Soon she is dragged into a world consisting of many deities and acolytes, a world very different from her own.
This book has a rather generic plot but it still is very impressive. Antoine Bonner built a different realm altogether and the way this realm clashed with the real world was very astounding. although, the author didn't make much use of this amazing plot.
This book, however, was very vague. It had an amazing plot and a lot of potential, however, it was only 160 pages long. The author built a beautiful realm but was not able to dive into the emotions of the characters, and that hinders the reader to immerse in the book. At many points the book stopped making sense, for example, Saira (Amanda's younger sister) was a gifted 6-year-old child but she was rather unrealistic. Saira was portrayed to have already known the existence of the different realms even before Amanda, and the explanation for this didn't make sense at all. There were rather emotional moments in the book which the author didn't portray nicely, it seemed so fake. The book was only 160 pages but it seemed so long because it wasn't interesting. The author should've just made the book more detailed. It was very evident that the author had very little experience with books.
My rating for it would be 1 out of 4. I am a fantasy fan, and this book had a fairly good fantasy plot but the author was a very poor writer and couldn't do the job of engaging the reader. I didn't even want to finish the book. It was as though I was reading a movie script because the actions in the book were very evident but the emotional state of the characters was not at all touched upon.
This book didn't do the job for me but because its plot is nice it is mainly for fantasy fans who put the plot above all else. It will also engage people that like fast-moving stories and not extremely detailed scenes.
