[Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of "Sophistries of Summer Days” by Jenny Lofters.]
During a period of instability, deception, treachery, and loss, two women form an exceptional bond. Even the British West Indies aren't immune to the 1930s' political upheavals, but Cherrimina, a fourteen-year-old islander, is more interested in Dove, a gorgeous red-haired American who has mysteriously emerged in her isolated community. Dove moves into an abandoned mansion, and as a deadly cyclone approaches, she commits a crime that only Cherrimina witnesses. The two young ladies forge an odd relationship, but after the storm passes, Dove vanishes from Cherrimina's life. Then World War II breaks out, and Cherrimina lives through those dreadful years.
Sophistries of Summer Days by Jenny Lofters is a book with a lot of history in it expaunding well enough on the harsh environment around World War II. It spikes an interest in matters surrounding the war and the impacts it had around the West Indies. It also inspires the act of working together especially for women to uplift each other.
Reading and assimilating the story in the book was made easy by how the author wrote the story. She told the story in simple language that was easy to understand. Even war jargon in the book was broken down and explained so that a layperson could understand.
I gained a lot from reading this book. I learnt to trust as well as be cautious. As the story was beneficial to me, I believe it would be beneficial to all readers. I had no issues with the book. Therefore, I would give it a perfect rating of 4 out of 4 stars. I would recommend it to anyone in a sticky situation who wants to affirm their decision for or against something they made up.
