[Following is a volunteer review of "Sock Lobsters" by Michelle Bulriss.]

When looking for children’s books nowadays, it can be hard to find a story that’s entertaining, yet still meaningful and impactful to young minds. However, Sock Lobsters by Michelle Bulriss is an ideal example of a fun, memorable book that teaches children about the important topic of grief. I think that this is an integral subject for children to learn but it’s rarely brought up because of the difficulty in explaining it without being too harsh. Yet, with the lighthearted setting of this story, I think that children will understand the theme and ask to read the book again and again.

One day, an elderly grandmother knits two lobster socks for her granddaughter, Emily, using a ball of magical red yarn. Emily is thrilled to receive these unique socks, especially when they begin to talk! One sock, named Sebastian, is rather pessimistic. The other, Lola is more positive. Still, they are good friends, and they both take an immediate liking to Emily.

Soon enough, Emily brings her new socks to the laundromat. In the hustle and bustle of washing and drying, Lola falls out of the laundry basket. Sebastian is distraught at home as Emily can’t figure out where Lola went. Meanwhile, Lola is also angry and upset, but she counts to five, calms down, and resolves to stay positive. A friendly cat named Bubbles picks Lola up and brings her back to Emily’s house. Sebastian and Lola are reunited and they are both happy to be together again.

I really couldn’t find anything to dislike about this book. The drawings were adorable, the writing was appropriate and educational for children, and the text was very well-edited. As I stated earlier, I was also extremely impressed with how the author handled relating the mature topic of grief in a way that children would understand and connect to.

All in all, this is a book that I would highly recommend for parents looking to teach their children important life lessons. Young kids will fall in love with this book, as it is a whimsical tale with a happy ending. I give it four out of four stars.

The name of this book is very unique! I also find that it is important but hard to explain grief to children. The lightheartedness of this tale should shed some light on the emotion in a way delicate enough for younger beings. Thank you for your amazing review!

My opinion of this book is extremely positive. "Sock Lobsters" by Michelle Bullris is a captivating and enjoyable story for children, while also conveying a powerful message about sadness. Children will enjoy reading and interacting with the tale, while benefiting from the valuable lessons it offers.

I liked the way the topic of sadness was addressed in the story, presented in an easy and understandable way for children. The handling of the characters' emotions and their development throughout the story was balanced and inspiring. The illustrations were attractive and fitting for the story, adding additional value to the reading experience.

Overall, I agree with the review rating the book four out of four stars. "Sock Lobsters" deserves recommendation for parents and children looking for a captivating and educational story simultaneously.
