[Following is a volunteer review of "Last Words from Above" by Jeremy Brown.]
Last Words from Above by Jeremy Brown, is the final book in a collection of seven books. It is a Christian book drawing inspiration from the teachings of the Bible. The book consists of two thousand and one numbered quotes.
Jeremy starts by sharing how he traveled to the mountains after God instructed him to gain inspiration to write the book. Each quote in the book provides counsel on how a Christian should deal with different life circumstances. Although the book leans much on the Christian doctrine, it is a wholesome guide for anyone looking to lead a meaningful life and co-exist with others. Drawing from the introduction, you can feel that some quotes borrow from his personal experience. The Last Words from Above is also wisdom from Jeremy’s life.
The unusual style of numbering each quote did it for me with the Last Words from Above. As a reader, it is easy to refer back to quotes that stand out. Brown efficiently uses humor to dilute the rather delicate issues he tackles in many of the ideas. The use of humor further makes the book fun to read. I also feel that the author’s choice of words for each quote was sufficient in making the book relatable.
As I read the quotes, I wished the author could have shared some personal stories alongside some selected quotes for easy understanding. There’s no doubt some of his quotes had a deeper meaning, and you could end up missing an important point due to the lack of an exhaustive explanation. Numbering the quotes made the book one of its kind, but it also limited further explanation of some points.
I found the book relatable due to the one-of-a-kind structure and choice of words. The book has many minor errors which did little to prevent the delivery of the main ideas of the book. Last Words from Above is unputdownable and so I rate it 4 out of 4 stars.
Are you a Christian second-guessing your faith or purpose? I recommend this book to you. Jeremy Brown offers you an unconventional perspective that revitalizes your belief system and broadens your mind on matters of faith. The author’s emphasis on re-evaluating what we already believe in and practice daily is shrewd in assisting us to discover our purpose and direction in life.
