Review of The Mystery of the Hidden Bridge

[Following is a volunteer review of "The Mystery of the Hidden Bridge" by David W. Scheer.]
The Mystery of the Hidden Bridge by David W. Scheer is an allegorical tale that focuses on three top athletes who decide to hold a competition to determine who is the best swimmer. They decide that whoever can swim from the United States to England will be the winner; people gather from across the world to watch this amazing competition.
But as they’re getting ready to swim, a fog appears over the water. An old Christian man suggests they use a huge bridge with a powerful name on it that he can see through the fog. But no one else can see this, so they laugh at him and tell him to leave. Will the swimmers make it to England despite the dangers? Will anyone listen to the wise old man? And what name did he see on the bridge?
This was a well-written allegorical tale that discusses how people can escape sadness and pain by seeking and finding God. The author also included lessons on the dangers of pride and some other common traps that Christians may fall into. The allegory is simple but interesting and would be suitable for parents wanting to teach their children about Christianity.
Scheer did something unique in this work that I really enjoyed. He added some words throughout the story that are in parentheses. This is so that when an adult is reading this book to a child, they can stop before reading that word and have the child guess it. I enjoyed that the author created this possibility of interaction with the story.
The Mystery of the Hidden Bridge by David W. Scheer is getting a 4 out of 4 stars rating from me. It was an interesting allegory that was simple enough for children to enjoy and would be a useful tool for adults wanting to talk to children about Christianity. There were only a few errors throughout the work, and several fun illustrations were included. This book would be suitable for Christians – especially children – or those interested in learning about Christianity.
