Clint Kennedy is a college graduate, an ex-banker, and a self-proclaimed philanthropist. He seeks to promote the welfare of his family's banking business, and he builds his school for underprivileged Mayan children in his hometown of White City in Mexico. Even with his good intentions, he still lives a questionable life he hides from some people in his life. Laundering money for the cartel with your best friend and his father is not something to proclaim to the world. Clint was living a comfortable life with minimal worries on his mind. This all changed within a few days when David, the father figure in his life, becomes ill and an old friend and previous employee dies. There is also a war breaking out between the cartels in Mexico. He heard about the cartels "cleaning house" as they call it, but this is extreme, especially when the DEA is involved in the raids. Clint wonders what the future of their business will look like, and how this unrest will affect the constant flow of money. If he wants to get out, how does he do it? Is it even possible to leave the cartel with your life intact?

Money Faucet by Joe Calderwood is an energetic action-thriller filled with twists and turns in the plot. It was easy to picture the characters as the author described them in detail, and the characters are well established. Connecting and sharing emotions with them came easy and the storyline is well-developed. I like how the story starts with a tense scene that is, for all intents and purposes, the introduction to the ending of Clint's ordeal. I liked the idea the author used to start the story in the present and then jump to the past of the characters and build up the story from there.

There is nothing that I did not like about the book, and I felt that the story and the situations encountered by the characters are plausible and realistic. It sheds a little light on the reach the cartels have and the number of people they influence. It made me think of how quickly one's situation can change, and the role we play in people's lives. Clint had a relatively structured life, and suddenly he had to become a legal guardian for a pensioner with dementia. He also had to face the unknown future regarding his income, and the role he still has in the cartel.

I really enjoyed this book and rate it 4 out of 4 stars. The book is exceptionally well-edited and no mistakes are present. It is an action-packed thriller that keeps on surprising you at every turn. It is a creative example of how life is not always clear-cut, and we sometimes must reside in the gray areas to accomplish things.

If you are looking for a book filled with excitement and precarious situations, this is it. It is a splendid book for anyone past their late teens. Word of caution because it contains some profanity and titillating details, but a fabulous read nonetheless.
