[Following is a volunteer review of "We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies" by Matthew Tysz.]
We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies is a fantasy novel by Matthew Tysz. This book marks the beginning of the Voulhire series and there is a total of six-volume. It begins with a mystery, unlike any other fantasy novel. Galen is described as a kind character who came from the land of princes to this mysterious city Magnum Caelum to inherit the possessions of his uncle and to establish a fresh life.
Lord Eldus who is appointed by the king wants to make Hillport a better place. He’s the kind of lord every town needs. As I see it is a world of both good and evil. Lord Meldorath is a wicked character, indirectly described in the entire book. Despite no direct description, his character has caused a massive impact on formulating this novel.
Though every character projects a different image of Lord Meldorath in their mind, they have one thing in common and that is fear. The author has accomplished an excellent job maintaining the mystery and fear till the end of the book. All the towns and cities in Voulhire are well connected and described in a way reader thinks it exists with the help of a map in the beginning. The use of humor in between certain chapters makes this plot amusing. The story is fast-paced, and I did not lose interest so there was no drab moment in between. It was quite effortless for me to imagine every plot as the characters are well developed and it is narrated smoothly.
Peculiarly there is nothing I dislike about this book. In my opinion, the reference guide which is provided at the end to understand the terminology better should be next to every word so that the readers don’t have to go back and forth. I am not so much impressed by the ending but I think all the mysteries will unravel in the succeeding volume. I would label this book as more of an introduction to the voulhire series.
Overall I rate We are Voulhire: A new arrival under great skies 4 out of 4 stars as it was a thrilling experience reading this book. It seems to be professionally edited, so it does not deserve a lower rating. The target audience for this particular volume is people who love mystery, cosmos, and magic. I would not recommend it for children as it requires some political understanding and also due to the use of certain words.
