[Following is a volunteer review of "Logistics. A Christmas Story" by Chris Coppel.]
Once upon a Christmas morning, Tony and his family found a two-and-a-half-year-old girl under their Christmas tree. The police charged them with her kidnapping. Although the police dropped the charges due to a lack of evidence, Tony and his wife had difficulties finding employment opportunities later on in life. The little girl was adopted and became Holly Hillman.
Holly Hillman is the CEO of a Fortune 400 logistics company responsible for moving 25% of the world’s commodities. She breathes work and efficiency. She refuses to waste her brain cells selecting an outfit, preparing her next meal, or having a love life. The most hardworking woman in America is about to secure a deal to acquire their rival company. The negotiations stand on one condition, a DNA test that proves the high-ranking executives would be healthy for the next ten years as far as science can determine.
Holly’s efficient and emotionless life is about to be toppled over when her DNA test shows that her ancestry is untraceable. She is from a location the lab possessed no DNA sampling. Holly's life irrevocably changes when she discovers her origins and who her father is.
Logistics. A Christmas Story by Chris Coppel is a story I deeply enjoyed. It transported me into a world of fantasy, science, and family love. I enjoyed every heart aching moment of Holly’s transformation. She was a person void-of-life, absorbed in growing her power and the company at the expense of ridding herself of distractions and desires. Seeing her rekindle her old beliefs and realize them by making the world a better place was mesmerizing.
I was unable to find anything to dislike about this book. The author was even unexpectedly capable of adequately explaining scientific topics such as dimensional rifts and genome origin.
I would rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. It was well-written and full of adventure and love. The story flowed seamlessly and was compelling till the end. The main characters were well developed. We got to know the character’s history and present. The ending was thorough and left no loose ends. Although I was able to expose a few errors, their amount was not enough to deduct a point.
I would recommend this book to readers who enjoy an unexpected family reunion story with a happy ending. It is equally a book for readers who enjoy character transformation and tortured cooperative romance with a sprinkle of Christmas spirit.
