The Bird Ride by Wade W. Bergner is a children’s book with an intriguing concept. Wade is a young boy playing in his backyard when a bird lands nearby and captures his attention. He locks eyes with the bird, and something strange begins to happen - Wade starts to shrink! Once he has shrunk down to the size of the bird, he finds himself on the back of his new friend, and they take to the skies.

At first, Wade is terrified that he will lose his grip and he’ll fall, but he soon loses that fear and begins to notice the people on the ground below. Oddly, the adults are all grey, and the children are brightly colored. He ponders why this is so. But all too soon, his new friend returns Wade to the backyard, where he promptly passes out. He wakes fully returned to his average size. Upon this discovery, he can’t help but wonder if what happened was only a dream.

I wholeheartedly enjoyed every aspect of this book. It raised an interesting point about how our attitude affects our life. And how changing the way we actively think and react can change our perspective of the world around us. I also was impressed by the discussion questions included at the end of this book. I found them to be quite thought-provoking.

I found nothing to dislike about this book during my read. It had no errors I could find fault with, so my impression is that this book is impeccably well-edited. The artwork also matched the story told well, and it was eye-catching. Because of this, I’m rating this story the full 4 out of 4 stars.

I believe this book would be most appropriate for children under the age of ten, with an adult on hand to ask the young reader the guided questions and help them gain the full range of benefits from this book. It has a good message to pass along about how you get out of life what you put into it. Such as, if you think happy thoughts, your life is most likely going to be more joyful. If you think depressing thoughts, your life is more likely to be depression-filled, like the adults and children that Wade saw during his flight.

Because this is a children’s book, it contains no adult content, such as profanity or erotic moments. It’s a solid, thought-provoking, and wholesome story for young minds.
