Rise of the Saviour: Acolyte of Truth by Antoine Bonner, a science fiction novel that revolves around a teenager. Amanda grew up in a normal family as an average kid. Things take a turn due to a strange accident in which she, along with her father, is saved by a deity. She is not very happy when she discovers herself to be an acolyte of the truth, as she wants to travel the world and pursue a career in karate. Moreover, she doesn’t consider herself brave enough to save the world. She has to master her skills to protect her younger sister, who is also an acolyte. Jamie is a doctor, and along with the domestic quarrels, he has a son diagnosed with cancer. He is kidnapped by organ harvesters and saved by the demon-like deity. He encounters his Kundalini and is said to decide to save his child by working for them. To save his child, he agrees to work for them and become a demon, killing children. He is captured by acolyte threat response agency ARTRA, a secret agency that works to save the world from evil powers of acolytes, and is sentenced to death, which makes him even more powerful.

I loved how beautifully he developed each character and the way each one was presented differently from the other acolytes, from moody and brilliant Saira to caring and strong Amanda. There were so many characters that were related to some kind of deity or kundalini. The book is full of suspense and action. It was a little slow at the beginning, or so I felt, as I love to read fast-paced stories, but soon I felt the progression of the story was fast enough to match my taste. So, I enjoyed the whole story. Also, the scenes were so vividly detailed that I could imagine everything as it was happening before my eyes, or as if I was a part of it.

Although I enjoyed the reading so much, I was left a little confused at times due to some unfamiliar terms. There were so many references from various mythologies and backgrounds that it was difficult to keep track of them all, but luckily I had some basic knowledge of Buddhism, Hinduism, and Egyptian mythologies. To cope with these, a glossary and a little explanation of major myths would be suitable and could have been a good choice.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars due to its suspense and explanations. Despite the issues mentioned above, it was a wonderful read due to its strong plot and explanations. I did not notice any errors while reading, assuming the book was well-edited.

People having little knowledge of some religious terminologies can give it a read. This book would appeal to the Asian audience as there were mythologies that they can relate to. Lovers of sci-fi and action will find it an equal match.
