That Guy What Kill Topsy

That Guy What Kill Topsy is a short story collection book consisting of sixteen short stories and one novella written by Peter Wood Cotterill.

Starting with a guy named Lester in jail punished for killing a girl named Topsy, then to an elderly man named Eddie, being canned by a stranger on the highway, and then about a fateful-day in the lives of Megs and Tina when Megs father commits suicide, and then about and man’s introspection about his own death, to many many more. That Guy What Kill Topsy is a book that portrays as a reflection on various aspects of human life and showers light on various points of human consciousness.

That Guy What Kill Topsy is a well written book with detailed imagery. Being a short stories collection the stories are diverse with different morals and integrities yet are easy to read and understood. The various titles of the stories are apt and have done a great job in building the excitement before diving into the pages. Author Peter Wood Cotterill has done a fantastic job in preserving the linguistic cultures and accents whenever the stories vary from one place to the other. I also loved how the author managed the mature content of the book and delivered it in the right way with so much subtlety through his characters, plots and simple dialogue.

That Guy What Kill Topsy is definitely an amazing piece of work by author Peter Wood Cotterill but still falls victim to the most common flaws of a short stories collection book. The book at times can be exhausting to read as not every story is going to be as good as the previous one and this causes hindrance to the pacing of the book. I also felt the editing of the book was mediocre. Though the stories of the book do mange to keep the readers hooked to some extent, the abrupt endings and a few lazy-writing of some stories have left me with a feeling of incompleteness and dissatisfaction. I personally think the author should’ve spend some more time researching, re-editing and rendering the book.

That Guy What Kill Topsy, is a book that delivers it’s content only after demanding the readers to pay the price of patience. Despite it’s flaws on the surface, it still manages to hold onto its core. As an author Peter Wood Cotterill is a great storyteller and I would love to explore his full-fledged work on a novel rather than his short stories collection. I give this book 2 out of 4 stars.

I recommend this book to mature audience and adult readers as I feel the book is a little though to comprehend for young readers. This book can be definitely checked-out by readers who have previous experiences with short-stories books and novellas.
