[Following is a volunteer review of "The Stolen Heir" by Tayma Tameem.]
Love, Drama, mystery, adventure, a good hearted protagonist and an evil backstabbing antagonist-- the plot of a perfect fantasy novel. THE STOLEN HEIR by TAYMA TAMEEM is the perfect example of such a book.
The Stolen Heir as the title indicates it about a royal heir who was stolen a few hours after his birth and grows up alone when his foster parents are killed without any knowledge of his royal legacy till he turns eighteen. But the world around him is in chaos with people not having enough food and a war ravaging around. But the boy will soon get to know how he fits into the picture and can save the world from destruction. Even though the boy has grown up with difficulties-an empty stomach no stranger to him and no idea whether his one and only friend is even alive anymore -he has agreed to start training for only he can change the life of so many people. And his uncle cruelty knows no bounds the limits he will cross to annex the throne of the kingdom even if it means taking some very very hard and personal calls.
Good use of vocabulary and poetic devices, an interesting plot and the fabric of the story which has been interwoven quite beautifully with each thing eventually falling into its place are some positive aspects of the novel. The story has also been well edited with very few errors. In my opinion, the bitter sweet story about love turning to hatred due to some misunderstandings but not being completely gone keeps the readers interested. There has also been a good use of dramatic and situational irony. Dramatically the readers know much more than the characters do this keeps them interested about what would happen next and how the tables would turn and the mystery would unfold. As for the situational irony the outcomes in the plot differ from what they could have been due to the interplay of bigger forces.
However, there were some drawbacks as well such as the story was running at a fast pace which to some extent prevents readers from forming a strong connection with the characters. At some points the story is a bit predictable.
Due to the fore mentioned reasons I would give this book 3 out of 4 stars . It was definitely a fairly good novel and I would be eagerly waiting to read the next edition for it would be interesting to know how the story ends and how the many elements come together for the final climax.
The recommended audience for this novel can be anyone who loves fantasy with a little bit of love/romance, lots of adventures and suspense. Last but not the least THE STOLEN HEIR by TAYMA TAMEEM is definitely worth reading.
