Fast Starting a Career of Consequence: Workbook is a non-fiction, self-help book written by the author Fred Sievert as advice to his daughter regarding fast starting the career.

Broadly, the workbook is divided into two parts, the first part deals with applying the Biblical principles and the second part consists of practical tips and strategies for fast starting a career. Each chapter starts with a powerful quote. Key points are listed to sum up the lesson and prevent the reader from missing any important points. To apply the given strategies and tips in life, a stepwise approach is provided along with examples for better understanding. In action steps, many tables and charts are also there to tabulate the results and cross-examine them. Some chapters like the golden rule, preparing for meetings, strengthening your presentation skills and balancing faith and career deal with self-development. The author has also cautioned readers, mentioning certain facts to prevent them from doing something not supposed to do. In the end, a beautiful and heartwarming prayer to God is provided, asking for guidance and expressing gratitude. The book winds up with the final advice to enjoy the journey.

I loved the practicality and the simplicity of the book. Along with fast starting a career of consequence, it also helps in achieving certain things beneficial for a happy life. The way the author explained the step-by-step approach to the problem, and then its solution is quite understandable and simple. I admire his thinking when he says to take charge of our development and shares his experience. He has also encouraged readers by saying that strategic planning is not an inborn talent, but anyone can develop it using the principles mentioned in the book. I loved the idea of placing the spiritual gifts in the marketplace assessment in the appendix so that the readers can find out their unique combination of gifts by God and thus can magnify their success in every aspect of life.

What I loved most about the book is its scientific base. Though the book is based on Biblical principles and consists of Christian prayers, it can benefit the followers of any religion spiritually, mentally, emotionally as well as physically. I was amazed, learning that there is a separate field of science called 'Neurotheology or the neuroscience of religion' completely dealing with changes taking place in the brain while engaging in religious practices or experiences.

Though there were many positive points in the book, I found some contradictions too. I agree with the author when he says small simple habits or things reveal our commitment to the company. But the strategy of coming early to the office and leaving late, doing overtime and sometimes working on holidays was inappropriate. I felt like mixing of personal and professional life here. But this was quite a minor point and can't be a reason to deduct the rating.

The book was exceptionally well edited as I didn't find any errors or grammatical mistakes. Due to the above-mentioned reasons, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars.

As mentioned above, though the book thoroughly deals with the Christian principles, its benefits can be enjoyed by every person regardless of religion. Thus, I recommend it to the employees entering or re-entering the workforce and also to the employers to increase and track their growth. It can also be read by youngsters who aren't yet employed but will be seeking employment in the future.
