Review of Randy the Irresistible
Randy the Irresistible, written by S.M. Goodier, is a fiction that describes the life and times of Randy Love. Randy is an irresponsible young man. He is the son of John and Marjorie Love. As a kid, he is stubborn, charming, and impulsive. His father tries his best to improve Randy's character; unfortunately, he does not succeed. Randy turns out to be a lazy, selfish, ruthless, and inconsistent young man. Despite his faults, he has a charming and charismatic personality. His family and friends help him when he has challenges because of his charisma. He drops out of college, and his father stops supporting him financially.
Randy lives in a small town called Bishop's Milton. He decides to move to London in search of more pleasure and entertainment. Randy has a photographic memory that helps him pass the financial advisor exams. Randy moves to London. He hopes to pursue a career in finance. He continues his irresponsible lifestyle in London. He is sexually immoral; he never commits to any relationship. He cannot maintain a home. He is always broke; he always borrows money from family and friends. Randy meets Nicky, who is a junior solicitor. He falls in love with her. Can Randy turn his life around and become successful?
This book just makes you feel good; I finished reading it in one day. The author's sense of humour is impressive. This can be seen in how he presents Randy's ridiculous actions. The characterisation in this book is excellent. The protagonist is a three-dimensional character. Goodier describes Randy's flaws throughout the story; he is irresponsible, impulsive, foolish, immoral, proud, and unreliable. In the same vein, Goodier expertly describes Randy's strengths; his strengths include charisma, self-confidence, and good looks.
Randy the Irresistible is a comedy, yet it examines and expresses many serious issues prevalent in present-day society. Chauvinism is examined and described in this book. Chauvinism is depicted in the life of Randy. He objectifies women. He has no respect for them; he says horrible things about women and treats them badly. Despite the love that women show him, he never commits himself to a relationship with any of them. Another major theme in this novel is responsibility. Goodier shows the reader the importance of responsibility by describing the consequences of Randy's irresponsibility. This book is professionally edited; I found only one error in it.
I must warn you; when you start reading this novel, you will not be able to stop. No negative feature was observed in this book; hence, I rate it 4 out of 4 stars. I highly recommend this book to young men who are facing challenges in their life.
