Scorn of Secrets written by B.Truly depicts the story of a teenage girl called Madison Guillory. Being the younger one of the two sisters, Madison seemed to be attached to her father who had a gambling problem. The repercussions of this problem put the family in some unfavorable situation which led to a catastrophe. Her mother along with her girls decided to shift to another city to live with her rich boyfriend. As an introvert, initially Madison found it difficult to get along with the altered circumstances. However she became closer to one of the twins, Justin. The other twin Jackson also had an infatuation towards her. He waited for an opportunity to exploit Madison and this put her in some inevitable scenario. When Madison was left alone to face the trials and tribulations of life, her grandmother appeared in her life as a guardian angel. This point on wards, the story line turns in favor of Madison. She was able to start a new life with some rays of hope.

The most attractive factor of this book is one of its themes, women empowerment. The bold female characters like Madison and her grandmother give a strong message to the society. They encourage us not to succumb to the foul plays of fate but to fight against it with all our might. Another fascinating factor of the story is its characterization. B. Truly has portrayed the characters in purely black and white hues. we can see both positive and negative characters distinctly. In addition, the issues faced by the teenagers due to loosely knit family ties are brought forward by the author in a conducive story background.

Sexual content of the story is a bit high as the climax itself spins around it. The writer might have done this without going too much into the details. Secondly, the construction of the plot is in such a way that it gathers momentum at some places and lags at some other places. For example, during the rising action the events happen gradually but during the falling action the events happen spontaneously.

I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. Except for some minor mistakes, the book is well edited. However the writer might have paid more attention to the sexual content and reduced its intensity.

This book is recommended to readers above eighteen years due to its sexual content. The strong message of women empowerment will be definitely palatable to the readers.
