A Kitchen Painted In Blood by Stephen H.Ahern

It is more than half a century ago.Joan Carolyn Risch mysterically disappears from her home leaving behind a bloody kitchen. Joan's daughter Lilian has been dropped off by her neighbour Mrs Barbara baker . Lilian enters her house and her younger brother David is crying upstairs. She calls to her mother but no answer .Lilian walks upstairs to check up on David.Thirty minutes later she goes to look for her mother in the yard but she's not there. With loss of composure she goes to Barbara's as she needs adult help. She said the kitchen was a mess and may have said red paint was all over the kitchen floor.Barbara goes to the house to find blood all over the kitchen and the phone reciever disconnected. Barbara calls to Joan but no response. Barbara shows great courage by walking to the children's bedroom to tend to David. Barbara together with the children exit the Risch's and calls another neighbor Jane. They both enter Risch's , search both upstairs , downstairs rooms and the yard but Joan's not anywhere.Jane tells Barbara to call the police ,and she tries to contact Joan's husband Martin. Joan calls Lincoln police department from her home phone. Now Sixty years have passed and no one knows what happened to Joan or heard from her again.

At the start of 1961 the Risch's seem happy and optimistically anticipate the future.Martin has been promoted by his new employer Fitchburg paper company and moved him to headquarters in Fitchburg Massachusetts. At thirty two Martin is making substantial salary and this leads to him affording Lincoln Massachusetts an upscale suburb of Boston.Martin and Joan buy their home on April 13 1961.The book provides maps that show the real exact location of the Risch's.It is after the author retires as Associate General Counsel of Industrial Company that he decides to look at Joan's disappearance case.He gets information from Boston newspapers and also the Middlesex District Attorney's office. They turn the entire case file to the author in 2017. Reading the book I get to ask myself , Does the author lastly get to what may have led to Joan's disappearance? Can there be a link that can lead to knowing what really happened in that kitchen and who was involved? Can the perpetrator be identified someday ? Did Joan really dissapear out of violence from a perpetrator or was it suicidal?

Written by Stephen H.Ahern ,A Kitchen Painted In Blood covers a case that happened sixty years ago .The author writes this book in an attempt to re-engage the public in the investigation. The Author has an intent to provide a comprehensive review and analysis of available evidence. Joan's disappearance case brings deep facts in violence, family, social relations, and sorrow to me as a reader. This case is a good example of many people in the world who disappear mysterically and never be found or the possible perpetrators to their disappearance not being caught or put to trial.

As a reader I like the way the author has provided every detail with much clarity . Stephen H .Ahern provides maps in this book and shows the real Joan's residence and her neighbours and as a reader I am left with a full picture in mind of the unfolding event. I also like the fact that the author goes back sixty years back not with the notion that even if he gets to solve the case the perpetrator will not be accountable as he or she may have died, but with the intent of Justice. Joan particularly gives an example of a good mother who loves her children as his husband narrates that she would have been fierce for the Children.Joan has a good personality as she has been in good relations with her schoolmates co-workers and relatives . Joan's case may also provide possible an example of depression that is shut deeply inside people's minds that may come later to haunt them as Joan may have suffered subtle psychological stresses, the trauma of sudden loss of her parents could have contributed to Joan reacting to potential threat that increased her vulnerability the day she dissapeared.

Reading this book fills me with both positive and negative experiences. I find the fact that no one really knows what happened to Joan really sad. The fact that the media, police department and also Joan's neighbours reacted to make attempts to solve the dissapearance is quite heartwarming. The book editing was professional as I didn't find any objective instances of grammatical or typographical errors. This book deservesfour out of four starsand I highly recommend it to the public at large who may have interest in mysterical dissapearance of people and who can happen to have added knowledge to this case.
