Christen M Whitehead very skilfully and subtly tries to throw light on the life and works of renowned author Earnest Hemingway through the eyes of his fictional daughter Finley Richard Hemingway. This book talks about how the life of Hemingway family would have been if Finley Richard Hemingway would have been added into the family equation. The journey of the only daughter of Hemingway right from her dream to become a lawyer to finding a soulmate, how the patriarchal society tries to weigh her down and how her hopefulness for finding love contrasted with Hemingway’s curse for love has been highlighted.

The story has been woven with many positive aspects. Christen M Whitehead has beautifully shown the character development in Hemingway’s daughter. Talking about Finley, her character development was relatable and natural, which is really impressive in my opinion. A girl who tries to fight off her vulnerabilities, stumbles and then again lifts herself up both personally and professionally. Her father’s words of wisdom at every point in her life added depth to her character, making her stronger and more resilient. In short, she was the epitome of hope and resilience in the judgmental society of that era. The undying love of Earnest Hemingway for his daughter as well as writing has been beautifully penned down by author. One noteworthy point which has been felt at every point in the father daughter relationship is that he is not controlling or being possessive of his daughter’s freedom and her love life, instead they give give each other perspective at every possible situation which the readers will come across in the story. The playful banter between the siblings and father-daughter duo was pleasing, adding humour to the entire storyline.

The author has written this story with such an equivocation that it becomes difficult to point out any negative points in this book.

I would give this story a 4 out of 4 stars because for me it was the perfect cocktail of- humour, romance, motivation with a dash of life quotes. It makes you emotional at times but also encourages you to never give up in life. Truly captivating and you will be always looking forward to read the next page. Also, the book’s editing is exceptionally well and I didn’t come across any grammatical or spelling errors.

I will recommend this story to all the people who wants to be inspired and motivated from the life of Hemingway’s particularly Finley Richard Hemingway. This story will continuously motivate you to rise above from your vulnerabilities, no matter what the situation it is. I will also recommend it to all the lovers of fiction.
