[Following is a volunteer review of "Make Me Exist: A Heart-Pounding Sci-Fi Romance (Lost in Time Book 1)" by Brittany Ziegler.]
Valerie, the main character seems realistic and relatable right from the start. It's evident she's had some hardships but is no worse for wear. However, she and her family are shocked to find out that Valerie's struggles are due to a force beyond any fault of her own. When thrust into a new reality the self proclaimed heroin must make some steadfast choices in order to respond to life changing events.
MAKE ME EXIST by Brittany Ziegler is a riveting sci-fi with just the right amount of romance. It gives the reader a plethora of emotions in the right amount of time. The story's gradual progression of rising events made me feel tied to each unfolding character like they could be someone in my life. Albeit, treasured friend, daunting ex, or frightful foe. I was invested emotionally with each sentence. This book allowed me to examine the relationship I have with my own daughter and the lengths a parent will go to if they think their child is in danger. The bravery that is required and acquired by Valerie's family is remarkable. The story nakedly displays courage, love, fear, and dedication.
A relationship in this book that is truly noteworthy other than Valerie and her daughter's is the connection between Valerie and her ex husband Alex. Their energy was renewable in that their trust of one another grew and expanded when it needed to, but, it never depleted either side.
Valerie's family members, new and old gift her with foresight while also creating obstacles in the wake of discovering who she really is. There were times in the story when I wanted to slap Valerie across the face because I was so frustrated by her choices, only to later realize my choices would not have differed from hers.
The story sends it's reader on a ride. I have nothing negative to say. It was decently edited. Although, the spelling errors that I did find were the same word 3 times. The characters were ever evolving and the plot thickened like a much needed savory soup in the dead of winter. There were a few graphic scenes, and adult genre/cussing can be read all through the book. (some of the scenes could be seen as triggering) I rate it 4 out of 4 stars and recommend it to anyone who likes science-fiction and romantic anthologies.
