This is a non-fiction book. It is made up of 384 pages of good research work. I was compelled to read from beginning to end in record time. It is very interesting; a masterpiece kind of book which started by giving a detailed process of shamans practices among the indigenous people of Cuba. The Illusion of Superiority is a voyage of discovery into the world of the shaman found among the people of Cuba. The author, Christopher Joseph, did good research work, extolling the symbiotic relationship between humans and the spirits, which he called the"unseen entities". It is, therefore, a quintessential display of skill. Once opened, the reader will find it interesting, especially in the area of further research work. The quagmire in the book, however, is on how to explain unseen entities, scientifically. This further raises one's curiosity. The simplicity of style adopted in the book will make the reader understand it easily.

Reading the book increases one's knowledge in the area of philosophy, science, history, politics, and quite a host of others. It emphasizes how to imbibe the habits that ultimately bring positive changes in our society. The book is highly valuable to anyone who desires to contribute positively towards changing his or her society. The acquisition of material wealth does not guarantee happiness and satisfaction. A reader should maintain an open mindset so as not to be biased with the numerous quotations from various Holy Books as quoted by the author.

However, one of the things I found in the book not appealing, is the inability of the tempo to be sustained. It looks as if the climax was reached in chapter seven and thereafter nosedived. This happened rather quickly as it appears as if other chapters were randomly selected to fill up the book.

By and large, the book made my day. I can gladly rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. I deduct one star for the same reason adduced above. A lot of other issues were added towards the end of the book that, to me ended differently.

I recommend this book to young adults, especially undergraduate and post-graduate students alike who may be interested in taking research in related topics. Any scholar who constantly reads to improve his or her knowledge will find in the book a veritable companion. It is worth reading. Go try it out and you will like it.
