Review of Entanglement - Quantum and Otherwise
Entanglement - Quantum and Otherwise by John K. Danenbarger is like the board of Scotland yard (game). Just like the roads and subways, all the characters intersect each other's paths (of life). It is confusing to follow at first. But as we progress, the plot develops so lucidly that there is no trace of ambiguity in the many interactions.
The story starts when Geena receives a letter from Joe. Here, he broke the news of her father's death. Joe also revealed a dark secret that her father harbored. This got her thinking about her family's past.
The main characters of the book are Beth (Geena’s mother), Kevin (Geena's father), Davis(Geena's brother), Joe, and Martin( Joe’s lover). They keep crossing paths and have a significant impact on each other's life. A big chunk of the book also focuses on Martin’s research. Martin says that his work can have a significant impact on humanity. Unfortunately, due to ugly circumstances, his research is all lost. Joe tries to find Martin’s missing work. The story continues till we get some information about the lost research. At this point, the characters in the story are either dead or have no connection with the ones that remain - in other words, their lives do not intersect with each other anymore.
I enjoyed reading each characters’ backstory. All of them have gone through some pretty tough times, which have influenced their lives. Kevin, for example, came from a broken home. He cut all ties from his family after he left. Yet the trauma of his past keeps kicking in from time to time. He is attached to his current family because he virtually didn’t have one in the past. So much so, he tries to save his son, Davis from a murder charge by going against the police. These backstories made me aware of how difficult some people have it. It is also interesting to read about the raw veracities of society.
There was nothing in particular that I disliked about the book. Though I feel in the beginning, it takes effort to keep track of who is who, as there are many characters. To make it easier, the author could include a character introduction page.
I would give the novel 4 out of 4 stars. The novel is gripping and well written. I couldn't find any errors in the book. Hence, I believe it is exceptionally edited. The book has content about abuse, sex, and prostitution. So, I do not recommend it to people who are sensitive to such topics.
