The Drug-Free Sleep Solution: The Four-Week Program for Overcoming Insomnia Using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy written by David Durocher, is a self-help guide that explains how to deal with insomnia or irregular sleep patterns. The short book, which is divided into seven chapters, aims to teach insomniacs how to use 'Cognitive Behavioral Therapy' (CBT) as a supplement to traditional therapy and medication. This therapy, which lasts for 4 weeks, will allow one to safely and effectively correct their irregular sleep patterns or lack of sleep.

The author begins the book by outlining the basics of insomnia, including types of insomnia, causes, and various methods and techniques for dealing with it. In his book, the author also mentions some intriguing and useful techniques, such as 'Paradoxical Intention', 'Radio Emotive Behavioral Therapy' (REBT), and 'Positive Illusions'. According to him, keeping sleep diaries, seeking help from sleep specialists, and maintaining good sleep hygiene are also very beneficial in keeping insomnia at bay.

The author has used simple text that the readers can easily relate to and comprehend. I was also curious about the various methods and techniques for dealing with insomnia. particularly the ones mentioned above. The author's book is based on scientific facts and is backed up by extensive and factual research from industry experts. To back up his claims, he has used a variety of quotes from various professionals throughout the book. All the references that he has used are included at the end of the book. He also draws on his personal experiences to draw attention to the problems that insomniacs face. I also thought the book was well edited, as there were only three punctuation errors in it. The book doesn't contain any profanity or sexual content.

Now, if I may, I'd like to discuss the aspects I didn't like. First and foremost, I found some of the information in the book to be repetitive and generic. On a few occasions, I felt there were several details that were common knowledge. For instance, most people are aware that anxiety and stress are the root causes of insomnia. Most people are also aware of how to combat both through a healthy diet, regular exercise, and meditation. With the exception of a few techniques, it had nothing new to offer. The author also goes on to make a contradictory statement. On the one hand, he emphasizes the significance of medications used in the treatment of insomnia. However, at some point, he goes on to describe the disadvantages of those drugs. The contradiction confused me greatly. Meditation has also been mentioned by the author as an effective tool for treating insomnia. He has, however, devoted an entire chapter to discussing Christian beliefs and religious texts in depth. He has also extensively quoted from the Bible. I believe it is the author's prerogative to do so, but I couldn't find any meaningful link between this chapter and insomnia. Unfortunately, the author doesn't really explain the correlation.

The book has some redeeming qualities. However, in my opinion, my issues with the book outweigh them. As a result, I'm giving this book 2 out of 4 stars.

I would recommend this book to anyone who has irregular sleeping patterns. It will also be useful for those who are not true insomniacs but suffer from bouts of insomnia on occasion. People looking for an alternative therapy to supplement their medication will benefit from this guide as well.

I occasionally experience insomnia, especially when I'm stressed out. I'd love to explore the authors perspective on the subject as he highlights the types, causes as well as techniques that one can use to manage the condition. Despite the low rating and the negatives, I will still read the book. Thank you for this review.
