The Reel Sisters by Michelle Cummings is an extraordinary, one-of-a-kind book about five diverse women (Rose, Sophia, Veronica, Amanda, and Melody) from different backgrounds who come together and formed a passionate, pre-eminent friendship. What's not to love?

The majority of the beginning of the book was focused on fly fishing, a sport that involves catching fish but is a little dissimilar from regular fishing. The way Cummings described it was incredible. From the start, I was hooked (no pun intended). Moreover, the women arrive at Rose's modest yet cozy cabin up in the mountains. While Sophia, Amanda, Rose, and Veronica are having a blast at the river, trying to catch fish, somebody yells, "Somebody help me!" They come across a young woman caught up in a rapid current and come to her rescue. And that is how they discover their newest member, Melody. The story carries on from there, full of hope, sorrow, love, and finding their true self.

The Reel Sisters beautifully portrays how important friendship truly is. I have always felt like there were too many books written about love and not enough books about friendship because both of those things are just as crucial. So I was delighted to get my hands on this book when I found out what it was about. I appreciated that the author chose that particular name for the book because it indicated that the five women were close enough to be considered sisters even though they were not related. In addition, I loved the fact that Michelle Cummings spent so much time giving each woman depth and a unique personality. The characters felt like real people with real feelings and flaws, not perfect people solely created for the sake of entertainment. But that doesn't mean they were not special. I loved Melody's passion for photography, Sophie's witty side, Rose's gentleness, Amanda's love for her children, and Veronica's leadership. It also is filled with witty banter and humorous dialogue, which increased my affection for the story. Furthermore, it is exceptionally edited since I found no grammar errors.

As for the negative aspects of the book, the book ended a little too abruptly. I am not sure if that was the author's idea of a cliffhanger, but still, Cummings could have added more details and made it a bit longer for it to seem complete and satisfactory.

According to the text, I give the rating 4 out of 4 stars. I recommend it to people who like to read books about friendship.

Friendship is an important topic that is not always talked about. Thanks for the review. I’ll like to read something different from love and family relationships.
