Have you ever felt frustrated in your job? You have ambition, desire, and passion for your job, but because of the level of your job in the organisation, you are bound to do only your day-to-day tasks with no expectation to take on more, lead, or come forward with ideas of how to improve your job and those around you. If your line manager or direct supervisor will only take more notice of the way you work you know that they will be impressed and note your action-orientated ideas, but alas, it is not to be because the hierarchy of the organisation is too vertical, large, and top-heavy. Finally, Jeremy Blain has written a book that can change your working life!

The Inner CEO: Unleashing Leaders at All Levels by author Jeremy Blain is a work of nonfiction in the self-help and instruction genre. For all people who have always felt that they have a CEO lurking inside, they will find this book extremely interesting and helpful. Reading and implementing these instructions could lead to business success in an organisation and an increase of confidence in all employees, irrespective of the level they are currently on.

Many self-help books are very inspirational, but vague. This book is almost like a manual that can be used broadly in most organisations. You can use the assessment framework to ascertain the “suitability and competence” of employees at all levels as well as “identify their strengths and skill gaps”. It guides line managers, human resource managers, and directors on the path to a “flatter management culture”. This culture which starts at the top will help organisations to embrace the 4th industrial revolution – the digital era. It also shows the shift in leadership and work culture from an organisational perspective as well as an operational perspective.

There are examples of Recognition and Reward structures that can be used when unleashing inner CEOs at all levels of the organisation and refers continually to the new concept of working in 2022 and beyond – permanent employees, contract employees, and remote workers. I will rate this book 3 out of 4 stars and recommend it to business leaders, human resource managers, individuals, and any other person who wants to stay ahead in “people development and organisational design”.

Covid-19 has changed everybody’s life – at home, socially, and at work. To prosper in 2022 and beyond organisations will have to transform not only their operations, their digitalisation, but also their human potential. This book, The Inner CEO: Unleashing Leaders at All Levels is relevant and action-orientated.
