Review of The Different Kinds Of Monsters
The Different Kinds of Monsters is a sci-fi novel, that follows the story of the Armitage family, who pride themselves on simple work ethics. Dylan is the protagonist, his childhood was characterized by constant movement from place to place and lots of work. Aside from his parents, the only other constant in his life was Emily. She was always there wherever he went, his then young mind thought nothing of it. But with adulthood came clarity, when Emily begins to prove that she's not the friend he thought she was. With danger every step of the way he'll have to seek answers to the questions he ignored as a child, learn his family's history, and find the connection between him and the monster that haunts his dreams, all the while figuring out if the constant glimpses are real or just a figment of his imagination. Wading through terrorist attacks, his father's declining health, and his daughter's recklessness, it'll take all he has not to fall into madness. He'll have to learn that there are different kinds of monsters, and some are more human than others.
The writing style of this novel was superb, The author, Seth Chambers, interchanges between several generations and does so beautifully. His description of events was precise and simple allowing the reader to follow the storyline properly. He also did a great job in expressing the life of Emily, the allosaurus. Properly conveying her feelings thoughts and actions, and portraying her as something more than a carnivorous beast. His description of events that took place in the Jurassic era was spot on. He accurately described the life of several animals, their hunting patterns, sleeping habits, and so on. The good representation of the LGBT+ community is also worth mentioning.
Despite the fantastic nature of the book, the excessive amount of violence and sexual scenes might not appeal to most readers. Physical, mental, and sexual violence, we're constantly portrayed throughout the book.
The writing style of this book was incredible, I genuinely enjoyed reading it. I noticed no errors in the book indicating that it was professionally edited. Due to its captivating nature, I rate the book 4 out of 4 stars.
This book does not discriminate against any religion. it contains a lot of violence and portrays scenes of sexual nature. I recommend the book to open-minded lovers of sci-fi and dinosaurs.
