Amara is born with the gift of the winter season, bikkir. Born with powers she could not control, amara is guided by the kingdom's trusted mage and family confidant. Katja, amara's elder sister and greatest companion also guides amara on how to put the gift of bikkir to good use. Amara is feared and greatly abhorred in the society because of mistakes she had caused by abusing her powers. Regardless of people's opinions on amara, katja always understands her. After a tragedy where amara loses her family, she turns into the snow queen everyone deems her to be. Amara seeks to avenge her family and ends up on a path she could only imagine.
This book is just wonderful. We see how life at a palace can be through the eyes of two princesses. Although there are fun parts like sword fights and hand to hand combat, there are still parts like boring balls with no entertainment. While katja is the obedient daughter with the purest heart, amara is quite the opposite. Stirring trouble wherever she went, amara used her ability to conjure ice on people for her personal entertainment. When katja is forced to marry against her will, amara comforts katja like how she had always done for her. While this book contains thrill and mystery, it also demonstrates a bond between sisters.
Awakening by Tayma Tameem is a lovely book with amazing twists. Tayma alternates between the present and the past events while slowly unveiling the story. The book is written in such a way that you join in on the mystery solving and don't have to wait till the end of the book to reveal the mystery but can create theories of your own. The book contains humor and relatable content although it's a work of fiction. It also contains moderate vocabulary used in a way where you don't necessarily need to consult a dictionary to grasp it's meaning, thus, i learnt new words. The book overall is fun with mind-blowing twists.
This book was very well edited with no errors spotted. Although the author used a lot of informal language, i have no complaints as i enjoyed it equally. I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars.
I strongly recommend this book for all fiction lovers and anyone who likes magical books. This book can also be enjoyed by people who love thrillers and mystery. The book contains no sexual content nor profane words so it's also suitable for teenagers.
