Review of Zona: The Forbidden Land
The book is about a young man who goes to his uncle's estate and finds his uncle missing. The young man is named Grant, and he decided to investigate the whereabouts of his lost uncle. After some time, with the help of a government agent, Grant starts to believe that his uncle's disappearance and the ruling of the uncle being dead after missing for almost a year is not valid. An opportunity of going to a repeated expedition with a group of young people allows Grant to look for his lost uncle. Grant's uncle had gone missing after going to this same expedition to Zona in which Grant had decided to join. Grant wanted to know what happened to the expedition team after finding disturbing clues such as a pistol that belonged to the uncle and some money hidden in the house. When the group almost arrives in Zona, they realize that it is dangerous, and they will be lucky to get out alive.
The book is an interesting read as it captivates the reader as the group of young men and women try to survive. Also, the book set is in Russia, and it helps an individual who has never been to Russia before experience the music and food because of the great detailing about these in the book. The writer made me feel the characters' emotions by describing danger or happy moments experienced in the book. The writer used the supporting characters well in that I felt like I knew them, making me feel as if I was part of the expedition. By labeling the chapters with dates like a journal, I went with the characters on each day of their adventure as I read.
The book used extensive maps that, at some point, I did find tiring as I was looking forward to what will happen next and did not find the maps as necessary. The sex scenes would have been a little more erotic to shift the reader from the thrill of the adventure to feeling the passion shared by the characters. The writer compressed the book, and I felt like the book should have been a little longer.
I will rate the book 3 out of 4 stars as the book was captivating but short for an adventure read. Also, I did not find any mistakes in the book. The editor is one of the best.
I would recommend the book to any person above sixteen years. The sixteen years and above is because the reader requires to envision the activities taking place in the book and experience the thrill without getting scared and having strange dreams after reading the book.
