Make Me Exist: A Heart-Pounding Sci-Fi Romance (Lost in Time Book 1) by Brittany Ziegler is the first book of the Lost in Time cycle. This reviewer has only read the first book and thus cannot speak to the future of the story. This Sci-Fi story centers around an alien family trying to survive through a seemingly extinction-level event. The book explains the human-like characters and why they are both different and similar to humans. This book is a classic fight of good versus bad. Throughout the book, more information comes through a little bit at a time on who the ‘bad guys’ are and why. The book’s main character has memory issues. This was a great writing tool to slowly introduce some of the more graphic memories and world-building.

This book had many positive aspects. The characters were well written. Many are well-rounded individuals rather than one-dimensional plot designs. This made it easy to empathize with the characters and understand what drives them. The main character is a mother with a young daughter, and the parental need to protect, and to protect your family, comes up as a common theme. I enjoyed that part of the book but can see where it would be a negative for others. The book is laid out well, it has a strong introduction, and the pace was well set. I also enjoyed the fun chapter names. Each chapter had its title named after a song. The song appeared to fit well within the book and the chapter theme.

One of the negative aspects is that it doesn’t finish within the book itself, so although it has the potential to be a stand-alone book, it is hard to give it a great rating as so much is dependent upon the rest of the cycle. The book itself seems like a good introduction to the overall story that spans 4 books, but seeing as this reviewer hasn’t read them all, it cannot be determined at this time. The reviewer noted 2 errors where there was a misspelling or wrong word used: plying instead of playing on page 278 and the use of the word sangria on page 201.

I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. The book was a good book that I could not put down. I enjoyed reading it and learning the characters. The missing star is due to the errors as well as the fact that it is a part of a larger story and written as such.

I would recommend this book to a Sci-Fi adult content reader. It is a Sci-Fi book with large amounts of swearing, gratuitous violence, and sex. Adult themes run strong throughout the book. There could also be a trigger warning due to the rape scene toward the end. It is a good book, and well written if the above is understood.
