Man Mission by Eytan Uliel is a fiction novel. It is about four friends who agree to get away from their lives once a year to go on an outdoor mission. The plus or minus one-week-long missions were an exit from comfort, adrenaline-pumping, and manly. They engaged in activities like hiking, trekking, kayaking, and cycling in different destination countries. They also tried out exotic foods and sampled different cultural activities they came across on their travels. The man missions took place fifteen times in fifteen years.

Apart from the wild missions, life was also happening to the four friends. They graduated from college, started their careers, and grew them. They also got engaged and eventually married and started families. They faced marital challenges, some resolved, one led to a divorce. They supported each other through it all. Even their carriers got shaken. It is an unadulterated journey of the lives of these men.

Tourism is a major theme in Man Mission by Eytan Uliel. The gentlemen travel to Fiji, Hawaii, Thailand, Australia, Korea, Peru, South Africa, and other destinations. The illustration on the front cover of the book says it all. The author makes a point of detailing each visit to the reader. As I read, I felt like the fifth member of the man mission crew. Vivid face-to-face encounters with lions and elephants in South Africa. The extreme activity of ice climbing in Iceland together with the adrenaline rush that comes with it.

The book sports illustrative maps before each mission chapter summing up the mission to come. The maps show the country of destination, an illustration of the activity to be undertaken, and the names of the known tourist destination. An example is the Japan mission map, which shows a bicycle representing cycling, the route being Niigata to Tokyo is labeled on the map. The map also sports a sumo wrestler and a Japanese-style building. It all aids in painting a vivid picture for the reader.

Man Mission by Eytan Uliel is a well-researched read. Eytan tells man stories with a good measure of comedy. It is a smooth read with rare typos. I liked the tourism aspect the most. I disliked the many five or so blank pages I had to pass between written pages. I would rate the book 3 out of 4 stars . It is a book of clean, adventurous fiction that I would recommend to anyone.
