Hands Across The Sea by Brian Cook is unlike any other average read. Change is inevitable and the book sheds light on the change in the blue department and law enforcement process. The themes focused on are leadership, crime, racism, family matters concerning this work, and nepotism.

The read revolves around the life of officers in East County. It is a change of an Era as Sheriff Emeritus Garrison Cottrell hands power to Sheriff Brendan Callaghan. When Sheriff Callaghan takes the baton, he also has to select a few people to promote and recognize them in a ceremony (commonly referred to as getting made). The Agency has to work together to enforce the law and it has its ups and downs just like every other career. The officers who get made are briefed and put on different duties. The choices they make influence the outcome of the Agency’s work. Some mistakes are made in the process, most are minor, and few are major. What happens when the face of the Agency is put on the line? Some of the officers in the Agency are related with a few favoring each other, but the strong ones encourage hard work. In the same Agency, there is a mixture of bachelors and family men. What happens to incompetent officers? How does being in this department affect relationships with friends and family? To get an understanding of all this, just read the book.

I loved the random humor from different characters like Lieutenant Fitzpatrick. A good laugh is great for the soul. The read is not only about stories but also about truisms that resonate with our day-to-day lives. It is attractive to a reader as it feels effortlessly written, the characters merge harmoniously, and the story flows perfectly. I would love to compare reading the book to drinking water. You are consciously doing it but it costs you nothing. It is effortless. It is an educative read on law enforcement.

I rate the read a 4 out of 4 stars. It is interesting, and I could not resist my thirst to turn the next page and find out how it all panned out. The book is edited exceptionally and in a professional manner as I found no errors.

I recommend this book to all creatives and lovers of crime-related books. Another recommendation is to the people who source for information on the law enforcement department. It encourages an open-mindedness to get the information required.
