[Following is a volunteer review of "Strong Heart" by Charlie Sheldon.]
Iron Twine Press published Strong Heart; one of the three unique novels written by Charlie Sheldon. Strong Heart is a fiction novel mixed with adventure and mysticism. The book takes the reader back to the origins of native Americans, and it kept me hooked from beginning to end.
Sarah is a thirteen-year-old teenager with behavioral issues. Becky, Sarah's mother, has passed away, and Sarah was moved to several foster homes while her stepfather was working abroad. At last, she ended up with her grandmother, Ruth. Ruth watched Sarah for five days before dumping her on Tom Olsen, her ex-husband's, doorstep. Tom needed to make a quick decision about whether Sarah should join them on their pre-planned hiking trip.
Hoping to teach Sarah some much-needed respect, the friends agreed that Sarah would benefit from visiting her great grandfather's grave. Tom needs to visit his father's grave and show his final respects before the mining company starts. This will be the last time the friends could visit the breathtaking scope of the Pacific Northwest and North Pacific.
The author, Mr. Charlie Sheldon, has created the hiking trip with several challenges. Heavy hiking gear, rain, fire, and hiding an old artifact make a compelling storyline. The danger and fear of a group of prospectors finding the atlatl keep the friends going. The character-building is impressive and meticulous. I enjoyed the dialogue between the characters. The culture, legends, and scientific data make it interesting and thought-provoking.
Sarah's ability to use the atlatl creates a mystical and unique perception of ancient times. These mysteries keep creating several enemies that conclude an interesting story. This will keep the reader glued to each page. It's an amazing story with relatable characters' personalities, feelings, and expectations. I am intrigued by Sarah's character; the obnoxious teenager slowly turns into a bold and brave child. She overcomes challenges in her young life and grows spiritually in a short timeframe.
Passion for their origins incorporated into the well-developed characters gives the novel a refreshing touch. The character-building is impressive, and the narration is perfect. The author has loaded the story with marvelous adventure, suspense, and magic about ancient people. I did not find any part of the book that I disliked. The events moved at a decent pace, allowing the reader to enjoy this, well-written novel. I loved and enjoyed reading the book.
My rating is four out of four stars. I found no grammatical errors, and the book has been extremely well-edited. The novel contains no erotic content. The perfectly written novel will be enjoyed by young and older readers that enjoy adventure, scientific inquiry, a blend of magic and mystery.
