Fictional adventure stories have been in existence for centuries. Before these books, as we know them, stories telling the daring experiences of different characters were passed from person to person by older people to their young ones. These stories showed characters going through daring ordeals in the sea, jungles, volcanos, deserts, and all sorts of places. I love adventure books, but not all of them. Only those that tell a beautiful and perfect story are what I like. Louise can be said to have had an unexpected adventure when word of a burning vessel reached her team. Excited that salvaging this ship could save her business and pay her bills, she and her mates sail towards the burning ship. Sadly, the weather was terrible. The wind tossed and beat their tugboat from all directions, but she was determined to reach that burning ship first. On this journey to financial freedom, she will cry, pray, shout, and laugh. All her emotions will be shared with you. And you will wonder if she will ever get out of this alive.

There are surprises in a fair abundance in the book. Charlie Sheldon is known for not letting his stories stay on a flat line for long. This style means that he occasionally introduces plots that nobody sees coming. That will never be a bad feature in his books, as far as I am concerned. I do not like boring books. These surprises made Adrift really interesting. And the logical response to an interesting book or show is to keep reading or watching. That is one of the things that I liked about Adrift.

I can and will say that nothing irked me in this novel. It ended on a cliff that had me dying with curiosity and worry. But I don’t hate that. I know that the author left it that way to keep his readers interested in reading the sequel. That was a brilliant move. Its characters also developed beautifully. Every character mentioned had an important role in making the story what it was. The little things mattered, and the author, Charlie Sheldon, made that clear. So, I loved everything in Adrift.

Just as I have declared my total love for Adrift I would also like to say what I liked the most. The thing that pleased me, more than every other point in the story, was the clarity of the characters’ emotions and the things they went through. You can say that I bonded and connected with everyone, including nature, which happened to be the villain. It was wild that the author could indirectly write how nature felt at certain times. He captured its frustration and anger as if he knew it too well. That was both incredible and lovable.

I recommend this novel to anyone looking for adventure in stories that appear too real. If you like stories like that, where a majority of the action takes place at sea or on an island, you should read Adrift.

You may be wondering about the rating that I have decided to give this novel. Well, I always like to appreciate my readers’ patience first for reading this review thus far. Secondly, now is the time to bestow the rating that this novel deserves. After I liked everything about the novel and keeping that fact in consideration, I made up my mind to award it a very excellent rating of 4 out of 4 stars. I heard that Charlie Sheldon abhors seeing errors in his novels. Thus, he edited this one excellently. No errors mean no interruption in the flow of the story. That is what I got from this book.
