The book The Prodigy Slave, Book One: Journey to Winter Garden by Londyn Skye was a great read. The story is about a slave who has been with a family since she was a child. She develops a special friendship with a child in the home; and it continues throughout their adulthood. Lily, the young slave, also has a hidden talent, which is discovered by her friend in their adulthood. The book not only shows the hardships of slaves on plantations, but it's also about the struggles that of a forbidden friendship. It is also about the lengths those around you will take to support you and your dream.
The book was very well written. The author used very clear and descriptive language, I could easily picture what it is the author was writing. Every scene where there was an orchestra performance, I could see and feel the music, feel the emotion from the characters. The only negative thing I have to say about the book is that it is too long. I think the story could have been condensed. There were times when the writing became a bit long winded, for instance when the characters would begin to reminisce.
I would rate this book a 4 out of 4 stars.
The recommended audience would be for adults, ages 18 and over, as there is sexual content in the book.
