The Devil Pulls The Strings is a sci-fi novel by J. W.Zarek that tells the adventurous tales of Boone Daniels, a twenty-two year old musician and handyman with supernatural abilities who suffers from panic attacks due to the loss of his parents at a very young age.

Saying Boone lives a difficult life would be an understatement as not only does wrestles with guilt over his parents' death, there’s also the fact that he is haunted by a wendigo, a cannibalistic giant, whenever he's in dark places.
This is just the beginning of what Boone has to endure as he grapples with even more hardships, suffers from anxiety, panic attacks and claustrophobia as well as having the fate of his city lying on his shoulders as he must take on a quest to fulfill a prophecy he was destined to take on.

While replacing a friend at a gig in New York, Boone encounters the beautiful and fierce Sapphire Anjou, a music student at NYU, where they both discover the plans of a secret society, known as Dragon and Nymphs Society, to summon the devil and destroy the city. Together the two team up with Lavender and Roses Society, another secret society, to devise plans to save their city.

I loved how the novel was written and structured and the plot was very intriguing as each chapter left me wanting more as it drew closer and closer towards the ending.

The diction was simple to read and understandable, once I got accustomed to unfamiliar words of the supernatural beings, for example wendigo and domovoi. I especially loved how there were words linked to history as well as words of mythical origin that enabled me to learn something new.
The chapters as well are so captivating and short that it made this book so much easier to read.

The romance between Sapphire and Boone was also a breath of fresh air amidst all they we're going through to save the city. I loved the fact that they had each other to rely on through everything they were going through.

I enjoyed this book a lot as the storyline was both thrilling and fun. The simplistic yet detailed writing style made the novel great and easy to read. I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars and would definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys mythical or adventurous books.

The story seems to promise a lot of paranormal mysteries and elements of diabolical existence. I am elated that Boone Daniel and Sapphire Anjou turn out to represent the good. I love regular fiction, be it scientific or mysteries of a physical nature. However, the dark spectrum is not really my thing. Thumbs up for the review.

The book is pretty interesting but the title may scare strong believers of religion and Christians.

I'm also claustrophobic and hence hope that I can relate myself to the protagonist. Would love to give this a try. Thanks for this wonderful review!
