The land of magic, history and legend.
This story from Charlie Sheldon Strong Heart, combines historical fiction and a touch of mythology.
It all begins on a stormy night. Tom Olsen is about to leave with his native friends to visit his grandfather Bob-bob’s grave in the Olympic Peninsula. That’s when his ex-wife knocks at his door. She brings with her Sarah Cooley, a thirteen year-old girl that presents herself as Tom’s granddaughter. Sarah is an angry, distant girl who had been neglected all her life.
At first, Tom thinks he should cancel the trip, however, he reluctantly, decides to take Sarah with them. At some point in the journey, Tom and his friends start to wonder – are they taking Sarah on this trip or is she who is taking them?
It’s a story of adventure, mystery, family and friendship. It develops as Tom and his friends discover an ancient spear thrower (atlatl) from Tom’s grandfather’s grave. Later, Sarah disappears. When she reappears, she tells the most intriguing stories.
Strong Heart by Charlie Sheldon is a captivating story that piqued my interest. The author’s impeccable style, as well as intriguing and fascinating. I loved the continuous element of suspense in the story. Strong Heart is the first of a three volume series: Strong Heart, Adrift and Totem. I haven’t read any of the other two books, although I am anxious to do so.
The author shows a well-researched scientific background concerning the northwest history that really drives us through the book. It is a sort of journey through the history of the Pacific Northwest.
I haven’t noted errors and it contains no profanity. I honestly can’t suggest improvements to the book since I believe it is quite interesting as it is.
I highly recommend this book to readers who enjoy adventure, fantasy, mythology and suspense.
I enjoyed reading the book and give it a rate of 4 out of 4 stars.
