No matter how old or how young we are, there is always something out there we fear because of a misconception. In the case of little William, this was thunder and lightning. Thunder and Lightning, They're Not So Frightening by JD Schmith is a children's book with a lot of lessons to learn from.

William was a little boy who lived on the hill. William enjoyed the evening part of the day. He would often sit at his window and look at the lights in the village, turned on. However, on a particular evening, the clouds got darker; the wind was strong, and William knew what to expect. He couldn't help feeling scared when the rain started to drop and he saw lightning. He could not help screaming, which made his dad come to his rescue. Not only did his dad make him sit and watch the clouds without fear, but he also explained to him the phenomenon behind thunder and lightning.

This book is very educational. I find it hard to believe that there are children out there who are not scared of lightning and thunder. I just stopped fearing when I started studying physics in high school. William's dad did the right thing by not just consoling his son, but giving him reasons why he shouldn't be afraid. This book sends a strong message about parenting. Children tend to believe what you say when you give them reasons.

There was nothing bad about this book. The story was short, and yet it was very impactful. The author uses a very simple vocabulary, and this is nice considering it is a children's book. The pictures were not complex, but they conveyed the message the author meant to pass on to her audience.

I would give this book a perfect 4 out of 4 stars rating. The book was exceptionally well-edited. It had no errors. I would recommend this book to people who love children's books.
