Faults by Orion Gregory takes you on an exciting and suspenseful championship sports journey with professional tennis players, focused on Sydney Livingstone (Syd as you get to know her) and how she has to navigate her way in the tennis championships while fearing for her life. The story opens with Syd’s closest friend and doubles partner, committing suicide after being suspended from the International Tennis Federation. Then the mystery starts when Syd receives an ominous package from an anonymous stalker, the contents of which bring up memories of a tragic past event. Syd and Enzo Martin, Syd’s boyfriend, share a loving and fun relationship and spend time together at the Mainspring Mutual Open tournament, both being top ranked tennis players, fighting their way up the ranks. Syd has her car vandalized; a tennis opponent to Syd disappears and is found murdered and there is an attempt at killing Syd during a practice tennis session. This and the other scares Syd has to face creates suspicion amongst the tennis players around her, including her coach and her family. Who and why does someone want to kill Syd? The characters and their actions create a lot of red herrings which leaves you wondering who it is threatening her life and who had committed a murder?

Faults takes you into the exciting world of tennis champions, their fight for rankings, the physical and mental stress they have to face, while all the time creating a suspenseful story around Syd’s fears and her mystery stalker. The tennis matches kept you riveted as you vie for Syd to win, you feel her pain and her anxiety and the thrill of winning. All the while you are constantly taking note of the people around her and trying to work out the clues as to who her stalker could be.

There are many characters in this story and sometimes it is confusing to remember who is who or who did or said what. The other minor is the referring to “Sydney” and other times “Syd”. Other than that the story is easy to follow.

Other than a minor spelling error, the flow of the story easy to follow with chapter endings leaving you in suspense. I would rate this book four out of four stars as even as a non-tennis player I thoroughly enjoyed how Orion Gregory brought the tennis games to life with the suspense twisted in-between.

I would recommend this book to anyone that loves reading mysteries, thrillers or sports stories. The story does contain a number of swearwords but no explicit scenes.
