Demon Freaks by J.R.R.R (Jim) Hardison was a very fun read. I did not expect the horror to have a comedic ribbon around it to make the story much more exciting to read. There were also a few life lessons that made the book meaningful.

The story revolves around two identical twins with very different personalities, Bing and Ron Slaughter. Both of them are in a band with Prathamesh "Meat" Kimitri, who is the band's drummer, and Kaitlyn Krimpsen, who was their keyboard player. They decide to meet at Meat's cabin to study for their SATs. Kaitlyn has a habit of being chronically late to everything, so the boys decide to play one or two songs while waiting for her. Things escalate when their history teacher, Mr. Brom comes to the cabin with a dagger and tries to kill them, though he doesn't seem to be in possession of his own soul and body. They capture their teacher and decide to take him to the police station and Meat goes to the dagger and gets possessed as well. The night just turns for the worst as things get confusing very soon. How will they give their SATs the next day? Read on to find out!

What I loved most about the book were the dialogue and characters. It was entertaining to read the conversations between the teenagers. The dagger also had a lot of funny dialogue that made me laugh out loud at various parts.

There is nothing I dislike about the novel. The writing was pleasant and easy to follow. Humor weaved into the horror of the story was impeccable and made the story lighthearted. "If there is no bigger meaning, then life means what we decide it means. In which case, it's only pointless if we give up or lose faith in what we feel in our guts is right," is a line in the novel that really struck me. It made me think and truly taught me a lesson. Whether or not life means anything, it is important regardless.

There are no errors that I spotted in this novel. I would rate this book 4 out of 4 stars as I said above. I loved the book and found nothing amiss. I would recommend the work to teenagers and above. Adults who like adventures and don't mind the supernatural concept would also enjoy the novel.
