[Following is a volunteer review of "E M P Honeymoon" by Dorothy May Mercer.]
E M P Honeymoon by Dorothy May Mercer tells the story of a newly wedded couple. Their honeymoon happens at a resort in Honduras, but it abruptly transitions into a survival feat and an investigation scene. Kelly McBride had gotten attacked in a gift shop. She is convinced that these attackers are members of a terrorist group, so she reports this to Sgt. Turbolo, her husband and Senator McBride, her brother. All hands are on deck to end this mystery so that Sgt. Turbolo and Kelly McBride can continue honeymooning.
Meanwhile, Colonel Rhee is sent on a special mission by the chairman of this terrorist group. This mission happens at the same resort where the couple is having their honeymoon. Would Colonel Rhee succeed? Can Kelly and Tom still have a great honeymoon amidst all these occurrences? Is this mystery solved? Find out by reading this book.
Reading about a terrorist group trying to wipe out the US and Canada, using an Electro-Magnetic Pulse, was interesting. The writing style of this book was great; it made use of the third-person narration. There were several characters and scenes, so it was a great choice to use the third-person narration. This helped to give an objective, comprehensive, and full account of every event that happened. Every character in the story had their unique roles; they weren't just fillers. I think the character development of this book is spot on because it helped develop the plot interestingly.
The story gets right into it from the very beginning. This is a fast-paced novel, so there's no boring moment. A good number of the characters were either working for a terrorist group or the CIA; this infused a lot of action and suspense into this read. I particularly enjoyed the scene where Steve, a CIA agent, went to investigate a shipping container. Unknown to him, Sgt. Tom and some other members of an investigating squad were also on their way to check out the same container. What happens there and after is quite humorous and interesting.
I believe this book is professionally edited, as I found only a few errors. I did feel like there were a lot of activities going on at some point, and the pace got really fast. However, the author did a great job of blending these different scenes amazingly. I'm not certain there's any other concern I had about this book. It was well written, entertaining, and it was absolutely a page-turner. For these reasons, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars.
Though the title says something about a honeymoon, this book is far from being romantic. Readers who love crime thrillers and series would enjoy reading this, as this is a part of the popular McBride Series. Lovers of fiction should have a great time reading this.
